A secondary junction box on Antares

EN

On the 30th October
2010, the IFREMER remotely operated submersible,
VICTOR, has successfully connected onto the ANTARES infrastructure a new
secondary junction box (SJB) dedicated for the operation of
interdisciplinary Earth and Sea science projects. The SJB, developed by
IFREMER, provides connectors to which up to six new projects can be
incorporated into the ANTARES deep-sea power and Ethernet network.

During the same campaign, a new
seismograph, a platform hosting a variety of oceanographic sensors (CTD*, O2,
pressure, turbidity), a single-photon sensitivity video-camera and a
prototype for long distance optical fibre communication
network were installed on the SJB.

All the new instruments are
operational and delivering high quality data to the ANTARES shore station.
